The Carrie Bradshaw of Interior Decorating

This post is going to require a mental field trip.  Cut to last spring, when we dressed in our frilly frocks and high stepped it in our high heels to our local movie theaters for the highly anticipated sequel to the ultimate chick flick...SATC2.  This time around Carrie put aside her obsession for haute couture and focused her attention on home decor.   I think it's safe to say at this point...I, like Carrie, am obsessed with Home Decor.  So much so that I have not purchased a single item of clothing thus far this year.  Instead I spend countless hours searching the net and stores alike for design ideas and the perfect pieces to decorate my lovely east side single family home.

In one such search I came across what is my new fav decor blog Houzz (link on the left...and they even have a FREE iphone app).  Houzz hosts literally thousands of pictures to tickle the fanciest of fancies.  One day I came across this pic which is simply TDF (to die for):

Although I already picked out a bed, but feverishly began my search for this one telling myself if I found it I could take it as a sign that I was meant to have it.  Usually, I can find anything...and I do mean anything, but this proved to be a challenge.  Thus far, my search indicates that the decorator himself (Brian Watford) may have had the bed upholstered.

He upholstered the walls in a charcoal gray flannel, and covered the night stand drawers and headboard with suede.  As for the bed, the description merely states its a charcoal grey shagreen bed frame trimmed with bone.  Once I found out what shagreen is (see here), I came to the conclusion that in all likelihood he upholstered the bed just like night stand drawers and headboard.  I need to look into upholstering beds...this could be a possible DIY project.  Or I could simply use it as inspiration.  I already found a couple of similar pieces to pull off this look...for less.

Saw these in Big Lots last night for $50 each.

From Humble Abode.  Starting at $239.

  1. Trading in clothing for home decor doesn't seem so bad after reading this. You're still channeling your inner fashion. Great post!!!
